GeoTIFF

Introduction
GeoTIFF is a common raster file format maintained by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The full specification for GeoTIFF is available here.

Umbra uses GeoTIFF to embed amplitude data (also called our "detected" product) that can be represented as a monochromatic image.

Data Structure
GeoTIFF files are composed of a header and one or more directories called "Image File Directories" (IFDs). The header describes the structure and content of the file and enumerates the IFDs. Each IFD contains data or pointers to data.

We recommend downloading the full specification and familiarizing yourself with it if you are unfamiliar with GeoTIFF.
