Umbra Product Guide

Umbra’s mission is to deliver global omniscience, and that begins by putting control into the hands of its customers. This product guide provides a basic introduction to the space systems, software, and data that underpin Umbra’s service and mission.

As an agile company, Umbra’s products and services are constantly evolving. This product guide should be interpreted as a snapshot in time, and will change frequently. In the last year alone, the number of satellites in orbit has tripled and the quality and frequency of data Umbra produces has improved dramatically. For the most up- to-date information regarding the current state of Umbra’s technology, always refer to the documentation that is hosted online (available at www.umbra.space) or ask a customer service representative for the latest version of this document at [email protected].

Umbra SAR Satellite Constellation

Umbra launched its first mission in summer of 2021, and currently maintains six satellites on orbit with plans to grow the constellation aggressively for years to come.

Umbra’s ability to offer superior quality, reliability, and value to customers arises from its core invention: an extremely capable and efficient SAR platform. What matters most is not the number of satellites in orbit, but the metrics relevant to customers – mean time to access, delivery latency, average yield over dense areas of high demand, and average quality. Umbra plans and operates its constellation based on those outcomes, not on a superficial constellation size target.
